Chapter VI - The Mirror of Forgotten Horizons

Legends spoke of a mirror that did not reflect the world you stood in.

It reflected all the worlds you might have been.

And those who looked too long would forget which one was real-and which was dreaming.

The mirror rested in the ruins of Veyloris, a city swallowed by time itself. Its spires had fallen, its streets had vanished into fog, and yet, the mirror endured-tall as a mountain, framed in silver that shimmered like liquid moonlight.

It was said to appear only to those who had lost a horizon-those who had let life pass through their fingers, and whose hearts still ached for paths not taken.

The first to arrive was Kirin Althar, a cartographer of impossible places. He had mapped mountains that vanished in sunlight, rivers that flowed backward, and forests that moved with the wind. Yet, for all his maps, he had never found a place he could call home.

Beside him was Lyra Veyne, a singer whose voice had been stolen by a curse. No matter what song she tried to sing, the sound twisted into silence. She followed Kirin because the winds had whispered that the mirror might return what she had lost.

The third was Orin Sol, a warrior whose memory of love had been erased by a sorcerer’s spell. He carried a sword that remembered his emotions, but his heart felt hollow, and his eyes were always searching.

Together, they climbed the shattered steps of Veyloris, the ruins echoing underfoot, until they reached the Mirror of Forgotten Horizons.

The mirror pulsed softly, as though alive. Its surface rippled with every thought, every regret, and every dream ever cast aside. When Kirin approached, he saw a city rising from water, mountains bending like ribbons, and skies streaked with stars that had never existed. He realized, with a pang, that these were places he had dreamed of mapping, but never dared.

Lyra stepped forward, and the mirror reflected her voice. Not silence, but a chorus of every song she had never sung, melodies that had lived only in her mind, twisting and harmonizing into impossible harmonies. The air vibrated with the sound she had never known she could make.

Orin hesitated. When he gazed, the mirror showed him a woman’s smile-soft and fleeting, the one memory that had been stolen. And for the first time in decades, his heart remembered what it was like to love.

Then the mirror spoke-not in words, but in a sensation:

To claim what you have lost, you must step into the world of what could have been. Only one path leads to truth; the others lead to oblivion.

Each of them felt a tug in a different direction. Paths shimmered within the mirror:

For Kirin, a city suspended between clouds and oceans.

For Lyra, a theater of endless stars, where every song had a body and a face.

For Orin, a battlefield where warriors fought with memories, not weapons.
